Sushi Masters

These photographs are from a shoot for O Ya in the Park South Hotel. They’re a Manhattan Japanese restaurant that serves upscale Sushi to business travelers. I known and worked with the staff at their sister restaurant Covina for some time and they’re always good people to work with. The heart of any restaurant is hospitality. And hospitality by it’s very nature comes from the staff and their desire to make you feel warm and comfortable in their restaurant. I really wanted to highlight that with these portraits and showcase the people behind the food that you’re enjoying. Businesses have walls and furniture but at their core a business is a group of people who come together to make something greater than themselves.

A restaurant is in the details that you don’t notice and never while because you’re too busy enjoying yourself. That’s the magic of a restaurant and that you probably will never notice the 1,000 little decisions that were made to enhance your experience. But that’s where a good photographer comes in. My job is to work with the staff to find those little details to present to potential customers. The shaved black truffles. That little drip of mayo on the sushi. The fact that they take a whole fresh tuna flank and trim it down to the perfect slice for your rolls. The cute little chopstick holders.
